Attendance Policy

  

LAUSD Attendance Policy

Absence Verification

  • Verification for a student’s absence must be received from a parent or guardian
  • Students may not provide verification for absences
  • Siblings, grandparents, cousins, other students cannot provide this information

 

Excused Absences

  • Illness or injury
  • Medical appointment
  • Dental appointment
  • Quarantine
  • Jury Duty (student over 18 years)
  • Suspension
  • Exclusion by nurse
  • Immunizations  (excused up to five days per incident)
  • Lice -should only take one  day to clean but all days  are excused
  • Funeral of immediate family member (one day in state of California, three days out of state)

 

Other Excusable Absences

  • Court appearance
  • Religious holiday, retreat or ceremony- must obtain pre-approval from principal
  • Employment conference
  • When a student is the custodial parent of a child who is ill or who has a medical appointment
  • Only those students who have excused absences are allowed to complete make-up and tests

 

 Unexcused Absences

  • Vacations/Trips
  • Unverified illness
  • Babysitting
  • Care of Parent
  • Running errands for family
  • Runaway
  • Family Emergency
  • Inclement Weather
  • Missed bus

PSA COUNSELOR

Our Pupil Services and Attendance (PSA) Counselor is Ms. Morales. Her office is located in the main office and she is full-time. If you need to clear any absences, are going out of town, need a counseling referral or need support with food, clothing or shelter please call the school at (323) 753-3175. She will be happy to assist you.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE IS THE LAW

EDUCATION CODE 48200

Each person between the ages of 6 and 18 years not exempted under provision of this chapter is subject to compulsory full-time education. Each parent, guardian, or other person having control or charge of such pupil shall send the pupil to the public full-time day school or continuation school or classes for the full-time designated as the length of the school day.
